Kaiāulu

Care for community

There is an inherent, unspoken bond to embrace the island’s way of life. Whether Native Hawaiian, born and raised in Hawai‘i, or those who moved to Hawai‘i, we all must take personal responsibility to care for our communities to build a healthy and thriving society for all of our people.

Our Shared Kuleana

Practicing Kaiāulu is part of our shared kuleana (responsibility) and kūlana (role) to care for Hawaiʻi and each other. Watch the video and read more below to consider what this value looks like in daily life, work, and community.

The Hawai‘i’s Soul Framework

The Hawai‘i’s Soul framework describes what it means to live with island consciousness and in a reciprocal relationship with all living things: the ‘āina, ocean, sky, the kānaka who originated from these islands, and all who call Hawai‘i home. Kaiāulu is one of the framework’s core values and offers guidance for how this relationship is practiced. Learn more here.
