ʻĀina Momona

Creating an Abundant ʻĀina

Creating an abundant ‘āina is a reciprocal relationship that can’t be separated from how we live, work, and play on our islands. If we call Hawaiʻi home, we have a duty to embrace and act on our kuleana or responsibility to mālama or care for, preserve, protect, and to perpetuate all Hawaiʻi’s lands, oceans, natural phenomena, and elemental forces.

Our Shared Kuleana

Practicing ʻĀina Momona is part of our shared kuleana (responsibility) and kūlana (role) to care for Hawaiʻi and each other. Watch the video and read more below to consider what this value looks like in daily life, work, and community.

The Hawai‘i’s Soul Framework

The Hawai‘i’s Soul framework describes what it means to live with island consciousness and in a reciprocal relationship with all living things: the ‘āina, ocean, sky, the kānaka who originated from these islands, and all who call Hawai‘i home. ʻĀina Momona is one of the framework’s core values and offers guidance for how this relationship is practiced.
